To complement the previous Bas-Relief Tool Addon, I also made a Conform Decals Tool that lets you wrap your 3D decals easily onto your desired object’s surface.

It features live, non-destructive mesh editing, text editing, automatic grid placement, the ability to increase smoothness, embed depth, height and the ability to expand an already placed grid when adding new objects (fit layout).

It removes the friction from other addons that I have used up until now. Here’s a video I made about it:
